How To Make Our Ramadan Dua Come True?
HOW TO MAKE YOUR RAMADAN DUA COME TRUE?

Prof Dato Dr Mohd Asri bin Zainul Abidin
Every person wants their dua (supplication) to be mustajab (acceptance of prayer). Living without dua is a path to destruction. There are so many things we need to ask from Allah. We don't just pray for future blessings or dreams; we also need to pray that Allah protects the blessings we already have. A human being always needs his Lord. Life is far too big for us to control with our own strength. Think of how many powerful rulers felt they were great, only to be defeated in the end. Think of how advanced and strong the "Titanic" was, yet it sank after only a few days at sea. Who truly controls the universe? Allah, Allah, and Allah. The Beginning and the End. The Zahir and the Batin.
The Role of the Soul
The closer a person gets to Allah, the more mustajab their dua becomes. This acceptance of dua is deeply connected to the khushu’ (soul presence, deep devotion and humility) of the servant’s soul. The more your heart focuses on the greatness of Allah, the faster your dua is answered. Actually, it is not hard to make a dua; the hard part is finding the khushu’ soul that makes it mustajab.
Regarding dua, many people make a mistake when they only focus on the time, the wording, or the place of prayer, but they forget the foundation: the khushu’ of the person praying. Do not be surprised if someone’s dua is not mustajab even if they are in Makkah or praying during Ramadan. Even if they have the right place and time, they might fail because they lack the basic requirement—a khushu’ soul that truly pleads like a servant. You must focus your feelings on God with total humility and hope. If you have that, and then you add the right place or time, your dua becomes truly mustajab.
Once we understand this, we can see why Allah promises to answer the dua of those who fast. It is because fasting in Ramadan helps build that khushu’ soul. Ramadan is a time Allah loves because it is His chosen month, and His servants are busy obeying Him. This is why, after mentioning the rules of fasting, Allah gives this promise:
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌۖ أُجِيبُ دَعۡوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِۖ فَلۡيَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِي وَلۡيُؤۡمِنُواْ بِي لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡشُدُونَ
(Meaning: "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am near. I answer the prayer of the caller when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obeying Me] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.") — Surah al-Baqarah: 186
The Purity of the Heart
Every human living right now will enter the month of Ramadan. Every Muslim and even those who do wrong. Does this mean everyone’s dua is mustajab just because it is Ramadan? Of course not. Dua becomes mustajab when a person fasts properly. That fast brings rewards and trains the spirit to surrender to Allah's will. Fasting grows sincere devotion and creates an amazing level of khushu’. This is why the dua of a fasting person is so special.
Anyone who fasts in the true sense will feel a difference in their soul. The more deeply they practice fasting—with their heart, tongue, and actions—the more khushu’ their soul becomes. And the more Allah loves them. When they break their fast, they have completed Allah’s command, and His love pours over them. This is why the Prophet ﷺ told us to pray at the moment of breaking the fast:
إِنَّ لِلصَّائِمِ عِنْدَ فِطْرِهِ لَدَعْوَةً مَا تُرَدُّ
(Meaning: "Indeed, the fasting person has a prayer at the time of breaking the fast that is not rejected.") — Narrated by Ibn Majah and others.
The scholar Al-Munawi shared an opinion that the gift of answered prayers was originally for the Prophets, but was later given to this Ummah. However, our hearts are often "blocked" because our worldly desires take over. Fasting stops these desires. When a person leaves behind their physical cravings, their heart becomes clean and begins to shine. That is when dua is mustajab. But remember, this is for those who fulfill the "rights" of fasting—those who guard their tongue, their soul, and their actions.
In conclusion, Ramadan is a blessed month. Fasting makes our souls and hearts clean. When you combine a blessed month with a clean soul, your dua becomes mustajab. If the month is blessed but our souls remain dirty, this promise might not be for us.
