Ruling On Conducting Buying, Selling, And Similar Activities At The Time Of Friday Prayer

RULING ON CONDUCTING BUYING, SELLING, AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES AT THE TIME OF FRIDAY PRAYER
When the preacher (khaṭīb) ascends the pulpit (minbar) and the Friday adhān is called, it is prohibited to engage in buying and selling or to conduct other activities that may preoccupy or delay oneself from hastening to attend Friday prayer. This ruling applies even if the individual obligated to attend Friday prayer is certain that his activity will not prevent him from attending Friday prayer.
Likewise, it is prohibited for anyone not obligated to attend Friday prayer, such as women, children, and travellers, to conduct buying and selling activities and other contracts with those known to be obligated to attend Friday prayer.
To avoid this, the authorities are advised to temporarily suspend all activities in business premises and elsewhere located around the place of Friday prayer, in order to honour the sanctity of the Friday congregational prayer.
