THE RULING ON THE USE OF THE QUR'AN IN RUMI SCRIPT AND OTHERS FOR OBLIGATORY INDIVIDUAL DUTIES
The original ruling on writing the Qur'an in languages other than Arabic is prohibited.
However, an exception is made for those who are in dire need for the purpose of fulfilling individual obligations such as new converts or those who are unable to read the Qur'an in its original script. Nevertheless, such permission is conditional, namely:
i. The script must be readable with correct pronunciation. This may be achieved through a teacher or other methods.
ii. Striving to learn to read the original Quran script.
Endorsed at the Meeting of the Perlis Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs (Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis) Bil. 2/2020 on 30 June 2020.
