Circulating Mosque Collection Boxes During The Sermon

THE 36TH MEETING OF THE PERLIS STATE FATWA COMMITTEE / 2018
23-24 JULY 2018
CIRCULATING MOSQUE COLLECTION BOXES DURING THE SERMON
It is not permissible to circulate mosque collection boxes while the khatib is delivering the Friday sermon. This action constitutes a matter that distracts the congregants from listening to the Friday sermon. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
مَنْ مَسَّ الْحَصَى فَقَدْ لَغَا
Translation: "Whoever touches pebbles (during the sermon) has indeed rendered (his Friday prayer) futile." (Narrated by Muslim)
Therefore, circulating collection boxes while the khatib is delivering the sermon is more likely to cause futility. It is recommended that collection boxes be circulated before the sermon or after the Friday prayer.
