FATWA ON THE MANAGEMENT OF SURPLUS INHERITANCE

Property left without heirs among the Ashab al-Furudh (prescribed heirs) and Asabah (residuary heirs) is managed by MAIPs (Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis) for the benefit of the Muslim community. At the same time, the management of MAIPs should give priority to Dhawil Arham (distant relatives) if it can be implemented. This is more appropriate to contemporary needs in the context of our country's legal system.
