Ruling On Images Of Living Beings On Walls And Elsewhere

THE 42ND MEETING OF THE PERLIS STATE FATWA COMMITTEE / 2019
14 - 15 JULAI 2019 / 11 - 12 ZULKAEDAH 1440H
RULING ON IMAGES OF LIVING BEINGS ON WALLS AND ELSEWHERE
Creating drawings, sculptures, or any images intended to be venerated is prohibited and constitutes a major sin. However, drawings for the purpose of providing information, education, children's games, and advertisements that do not contain elements of associating partners with Allah (shirk) or excessively glorifying any party are permissible with certain conditions:
1. Such images must not be positioned in front of a person's prayer direction.
2. Such images do not invite wrongdoing such as encouraging liquor consumption, exposing aurah (intimate parts), and other sinful activities.
3. They are not placed in mosques and prayer halls as this would constitute emulation of the places of worship of non-Muslims.
4. They are not placed at graves as this constitutes an element of grave worship.
Resolved at the Meeting of the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis No. 5 of 2019 convened on 5 September 2019.
