THE 45TH MEETING OF THE PERLIS STATE FATWA COMMITTEE / 2020

FATWA ON BATINIAH TEACHINGS

The Batiniah teachings that regard everything besides Allah as non-existent, whereby only Allah exists. Similarly, the teachings that Allah incarnates within His creation or that creation is the incarnation of Allah, or that Allah has united with His creation, separating reality from the Shariah to the extent of allowing a person to be exempted from Islamic law and interpreting the Qur'an without the guidance of authoritative exegetical disciplines thereby distorting the meaning of texts from their true context, all of these constitute manifest deviation. Such teachings aim to destroy the Shariah brought by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). From these teachings emerge beliefs such as:

1. Allah is the essence (zat) and man is the attribute, Allah incarnates in the face of man, animals, trees, the face of a teacher and the like.

2. Whoever reaches a certain spiritual station (maqam) or has not yet attained a certain understanding need not follow Islamic law such as not needing to perform prayer due to having attained a maqam or due to not yet achieving concentration (khushu').

3. The Dajjal does not exist; it merely signifies man's evil desires. The true meaning of paradise is a heart that remembers God; the celestial maidens (houris) and rivers of honey in paradise are non-existent.

4. Allah created mankind not to worship Him but because Allah yearns for them.

5. Abu Jahal is the beloved of Allah.

Therefore, individuals involved with Batiniah teachings such as Mr. Wan Hizam bin Abdullah, Mr. Ismail Ariffin (Lepat) and those like them are purveyors of deviant teachings who must be shunned and prohibited.

If the Batiniah teachings are accepted, then there would no longer be any distinction between monotheism (tawhid) and polytheism (shirk), the Shariah would be nullified, the Qur'an would be interpreted according to personal whims without scholarly guidance, and all Islamic teachings would be mocked under the pretext of spirituality.
