FATWA CONCERNING AHBASH |
| Islam is a religion that calls for peace and reconciliation (iṣlāḥ) among humanity and practising religion without being extreme. Islam prohibits being quick to declare apostasy (takfīr) and declaring fellow Muslims astray based on conjecture. Likewise, Islam also prohibits altering the meaning of the words or writings of other parties regarding matters they did not intend. After convening, the Perlis State Fatwa Committee concludes as follows: |
Ahbash is a sect founded by 'Abdullāh al-Hararī al-Ḥabashī who claims they follow the Ash'arī school, but this Ahbash sect is deviant and extreme (ghuluww) in judging other parties. The basis of their deviation is not because of the Ash'arī school they hold, but because of the extreme nature (ghuluww) in declaring apostasy and declaring astray those who differ. They also practise an approach of condemning, vilifying, and falsifying the statements of parties who differ from them. They have declared apostate past scholarly figures such as Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Dhahabī, and contemporary scholars such as al-Qaraḍāwī, al-Būṭī, Ibn Bāz, Ibn 'Uthaymīn, al-Albānī, Mutawallī al-Sha'rāwī, Sayyid Quṭb, and others. |
After examining the fatwas of scholars at the international level such as Dār al-Iftā' Egypt (Egyptian Fatwa Council), the Saudi Arabian Fatwa Council, the fatwa of Dr. Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, Dr. Wahbah al-Zuḥaylī, Dr. Muḥammad Sa'īd Ramaḍān al-Būṭī, and others, therefore, the Perlis State Fatwa Committee is of the opinion that the Ahbash sect is one of the extreme, deviant, and misleading sects. Its existence among Muslim society is extremely dangerous. The Perlis State Fatwa Committee is of the view that this sect should be prevented from being held and disseminated. |
